Irvine Unified School District’s 5th high school opened in the fall of 2016 on 43 acres of re-purposed land that was once known as El Toro Marine Corps Air Station. It is located at 1001 Cadence in Irvine, California within a Five Point Communities master plan.
This project was a collaboration with the prime consultant HMC Architects as well as C.W. Driver, Irvine Ranch Water District and the City of Irvine. Among some of the school’s features are 5 multi-story classroom buildings, Performing Arts Center, Student Center, Gymnasium, Pool Complex, Football Stadium to name a few. The site also includes over 12 acres of parking, driveways and sidewalks. In 2018, Portola High School won the 2017 Best K-12 Educational Facility awarded by ENR California.
